Creating a Scrapbook on Shutterfly
Back in the 2000’s, I was an AVID scrap booker. From Creative Memories to scrapbook conventions, I created at least two 12X12 albums for each child PER YEAR! These pictures are literally not even a third of the books I store in my closet full of memories. This is one part of my life that does not fall under the “downsized life” program.
The pages in each book are works of art put together with cardstock, stickers, handwritten journaling, and REAL pictures that were printed! I spent thousands of hours, and probably just as much money creating these books of memories. Where will they end up? Who knows? What I can say is that the process of creating them was my ONE creative outlet while I raised two little boys and I cherished every second!
Who scrapbooks now?
The scrapbook aisles in Michaels and other scrapbook stores are down to almost nothing. Pictures are in clouds and on phones. Nobody actually PRINTS them anymore. Gone are the days where you sit down as a family and reminisce about memories or show the new girlfriend pictures of your sweet boy going in the ocean for the first time or scoring his first goal. The best memories now show up on your social media feed. Even then, do you share them again?
What the scrapbook has become
The idea of a scrapbook does not need to be gone forever! Thanks to an online service, Shutterfly, it is possible to take those digital pictures and still create a book of memories that you can physically hold. Not to mention what a great gift! It’s a fairly simple process and not nearly as expensive as scrapbooking in the good old days. Plus you have the ability to change the size of the pictures as you create the pages. Do you know how much I spent to get a picture blown up to an 8X10?? There is still a creative side with thousands of digital backgrounds and stickers to choose from.
My first "how to" video through Loom
Join me on my first attempt at using Loom where I share my screen and record, as I walk you through the digital scrapbook process in Shutterfly. I did it in one take so please ignore all the mistakes and especially when I call Mount Washburn (in Montana), Mount Rushmore (in South Dakota). There was no way I was starting over! It’s a little long (37 minutes) but stop and start as needed. My hope is for you to try one book, maybe from a family trip, and see how amazing it turns out. I promise you will be hooked!
