Valentine’s Day Care Package College Style

Valentine's Day Care Package College Style

Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to send a care package to your college kid! What better way to let them know you’re thinking about them! This simple idea goes a long way in giving them encouragement to push through to spring break!

What should you put into the care package?

Valentine's Day Sugar Cookies

When the boys were little, we would make sugar cookies cut out like hearts and decorate them with icing and sprinkles. I’ve realized iced cookies don’t always mail well, so here is my solution! I buy a tube of sugar cookie dough, roll it out, and cut out the cookies. Once they are baked and cooled, I put them in a Tupperware container. Then I include a can of icing complete with sprinkles on the top. Once the package arrives, the boys still get to ice the cookies and even share them with roommates or their girlfriends.

Homemade Chex Mix

Another easy to mail treat is Valentine’s Chex mix. It’s an easy recipe and covered in white chocolate is a yummy treat! Also just package in a Tupperware container after it cools and it’s ready to go. This year I included a printout of the recipe just in case they want to recreate it.

Valentine's Day Candy

What’s Valentine’s Day without a box of chocolate and conversation hearts? Any Walmart or Target offers more choices than you can imagine. Your college kid doesn’t like chocolate? No worries… there are a million choices out there from gummies to heart shaped pretzels.

Non-Candy Options

I also like to include a couple of random things that aren’t candy. College kids always love gift cards. Starbucks or Doordash are always winners! I also include a couple of things I know would make them laugh. The clip on selfie ring light is an inside joke and the squishy dinosaurs reminded me of the hundreds of bath toys they used to have. Other great ideas are socks, Chapstick, or candles. Check out this link for 36 great gift ideas for teens.

How Do You Mail It?

I recommend Large Flat Rate boxes from the post office. The boxes are free. You can pick them up before you make your boxes. They cost $22.00 to mail regardless of the weight. That way you can decorate the flaps with scrapbook paper before you pack it. I line the bottom with bubble wrap and wrap the cookies and Chex mix containers with bubble wrap as well.

That’s it! Now just wait for that call that it’s arrived! I promise it will make them smile! For other care package ideas, check out my blog about sending a finals exam survival box.
