Laptop Vision Board
What is a vision board? It’s a collage of pictures, images, and words that you put together as a source of inspiration and motivation. A vision board has become a popular tool to help with manifestation, turning your dreams into reality. If you don’t believe me, just ask Oprah. In the past, I have always created a big board with pictures and words cut out of magazines. But this year, with my new “downsized” attitude, my vision board will be my laptop screen saver. Here’s how you can make one too!
how to start
There are a lot of ways you can create this vision board on your screensaver but I love using Canva. It’s very user friendly and has a million pictures you can pick from for your inspiration. And here’s the good news…Canva is free. I have the pro version so just know that not all options I use in this blog are available in the free version. After logging into Canva type “desktop wallpaper” in the search bar at the top. This will pull up templates to choose from. For this example, I am picking the blank choice.
Create a Background
That will take you to this screen. On the left hand side of the screen, choose the “background” button and then choose which one you want to use. I, of course, went with the beach. It’s best not to do anything too busy because you will layer pictures and words on top of it.
Layer on your inspirational pictures
This is the fun part! First think about the different areas of your life that you would like to focus on in the next year. Below are some ideas to get you started:
- love, relationships
- fitness, health
- travel
- new home
- money
- success
- gratitude
Don’t be afraid to overlap the pictures and you can even tilt them to the left or right. Be creative! Continue adding pictures until your board is mostly full.
Create the title
Go back to the left side of the screen and click on “text”. Again, a million choices come up. You can click on the basic headings or use one of the predesigned choices. In this example I used the “Cheers to the new year” predesigned text title. When you click on it, it pops into the middle of your template (just like your pictures did).
I changed the “Cheers” to “Vision Board” and deleted the “to the new year” part all together. Play around with different fonts until you are happy. Right below the blue bar at the top you will see the font name and can click on the down arrow to change it. You can also adjust the size, font color, and boldness. Remember that if you ever make a mistake, simply click the arrow pointing to the left in the blue bar to rewind.
I rotated the title “Vision Board” to the angle I wanted it. You do this by clicking and sliding the little white arrow button directly below the text.
The last step is to move the title into the right spot. If you want to add the year like I did with “2022”, just repeat the whole process.
Layer on more text
The next step is to add additional words to the pictures. In the example, I added the words “travel”, “yoga”, “balance”, and “friendships” onto the coordinating pictures. You do it exactly the same way you added the title. Of course, you can skip this step all together if you want to.
Saving your vision board to your screen saver
The final step is to add this amazing vision board to your screensaver, so that whenever you turn on your laptop, you are reminded of what you want to focus on in 2022. On Canva, click the download button in the top right corner. It will suggest saving it in a .png format. Save the file on your computer where you will be able to find it. Then go to your computer’s settings. From settings go to personalization and then background. Browse your computer and find your saved vision board file.
Upload it and you’re done! In addition to having it on your screensaver, you can print it out and include it in your calendar, notebook, or hang it over your desk.
